Robert C. “Bob” Fisher

Robert C. “Bob” Fisher, age 74, of Shelby, died Thursday morning, January 26, 2023 at Signature Healthcare in Galion following a long illness.

Bob was born May 6, 1948 in Shelby to Charles and Nancy (Condon) Fisher. He was a 1966 graduate of Shelby High School. Bob was very proud to be a sportswriter for 33 years, primarily writing for Mansfield News Journal and covering basketball and football games every Friday. He worked in various positions over the years including Mansfield Business College, Bissman Co., Greenseed, and Cotton Club. Bob retired from Werner Trucking Enterprises, where he was a driver recruiter in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania- a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

Following retirement, Bob started a DJ company called “The Music PROvider” entertaining and providing services for numerous weddings and events. This evolved into him getting his minister license and marrying couples too- the total package! Bob had the gift to gab and enjoyed golfing in various leagues over the years. Above all else, Bob’s #1 love was University of Michigan football. He was a diehard fan and attended copious amounts of games throughout his lifetime.

Surviving is his wife and partner of 33 years, Victoria E. “Vicki” (DeVine) Fisher. They married May 25, 2007. Also surviving are his children: Derek (Alison) Fisher of Mansfield, Chad Fisher (Gena Olivier) of Austin, TX, Todd Fisher of New York, New York, and Rebekah Fisher (Nicholas Sexton) of Shelby; 6 grandchildren: Greyson Fisher, Elly Fisher, Gatlin Sexton, Nova Sexton, Ryan Fisher, and Van Fisher; parents: Charles and Nancy (Condon) Fisher; brother: Rick (Susan) Fisher; as well as other relatives and friends. Bob was happily greeted in Heaven by his many beloved Boxer dogs whom he loved and missed so very much.

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 3-6 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will immediately follow at 6 pm. Pastor Josh Kocher of Crossroads Church, where Bob was a member, will officiate the services.

Very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. Sending our thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Bob was a great guy. Allways positive, thoughtful, caring and engaging when we worked together at Werner. Bob truly made a difference during his career.

About 20 years ago, Bob and I spoke about our mutual interest in college football, and he learned that I grew up in Iowa and that I’m a Hawkeye fan.
Starting that year and every year thereafter, the printed glossy Hawkeye football media guide never failed to show up in my office after Bob attended the annual Big 10 media days.

So many happy memories during my college years of always returning to Shelby and meeting up with Bob and Penny Heitzman in the summer. Penny drove her dad’s jeep and we drove the route over and over and over. We never tired of the boulevard, downtown Shelby, and back. In more recent years, Bob shared so many stories of his DJ’ing experiences that kept us in stitches.

Bob was a good man and a kind man; he is in God’s hands now! Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.

  26. Susan Fisher says:

Bob was a great brother-in-law and an all around great guy. He was always so happy and funny—laughing and joking and thoroughly enjoying life. I hate so badly that his last few years were riddled with health issues but he fought so valiantly through it all. I’m so sorry for our family that we had to lose him waaay too early. I feel so sad for Nancy and Charlie—it’s always hard for parents to lose a child—and for Vicki who was a perfect partner for him—they had so much fun together and for his children—Derek-Chad-Todd and Bekah—you lost a very great man and loving father. I’m sorry the grandchildren will be denied Bob’s attention as they grow into adults. I feel so sad for Rick as he has lost not only his brother but a very good friend. I love you all and I loved Bob. I’m so sorry that obstacles kept me from being with you—but my heart certainly was—Susan

  27. Bill Foor says:

Vicki and family. Our sincere sympathies for your loss! Bob and I played ball together years ago and he remained a good friend. He was a very special man who always had a smile and loved life to the fullest. I know how much he enjoyed covering HS sports and he was a great conveyor of the games he covered recognizing as many of the players as possible. A very special person who will be missed by anyone who knew him.
