Richard Vincent “Dick” Vogt

Richard Vincent “Dick” Vogt, age 86, of Crestline, died Thursday, December 30, 2021 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following complications of a stroke.
Dick was born October 25, 1935 in Leipsic, Putnam County, Ohio to the late Robert C. and Cornelia (Schroeder) Vogt. He was a 1953 graduate of Crestline High School and was a proud United States Army veteran serving from 1955-1957. Dick was a farmer in his early years and retired in 1997 from General Motors in Ontario after a nearly 40-year career. Dick was an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where he sang in the choir and was a eucharistic minister in addition to any program or activity the church needed assistance with.
Dick loved Lake Erie, especially boating and camping with his family, had delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, and was a proud champion pumpkin grower. He was a generous man who was always happy to lend a helping hand using his handyman skills. Above all, Dick was a family man and was very proud of his family, including his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On June 6, 1959 Dick married Marilyn Ann (Horning) Vogt and she survives. Also surviving are his 8 children: Deacon Steven (Sheila) Vogt of Crestline, Alan (Julie) Vogt of Shelby, Gary (Angie) Vogt of Shelby, Christopher (Christine) Vogt of Shelby, Jeffrey (Kelly) Vogt of Shelby, Julie (Jamie) Stall of Findlay, Andrea (Lee) Wilkins of Shelby, and Mark (Melissa) Vogt of Shelby; 24 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and his twin brother’s wife: Shirley Vogt of Crestline; and many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brothers: his twin: Robert “Bob” Vogt, Eugene Vogt, and Virgil Vogt; and sisters: Joanne Vogt, Esther Nadler, Mary Heichelbech, and Leoma Gordon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 11 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 5742 State Route 61, Shelby. Fr. Jeff Smith will celebrate mass with Msgr. I regret, but fully understand due to COVID-19, not being able to personally extend my condolences to Aunt Marylin with the loss of her beloved husband, my Uncle Dick. I also want to pass along condolences to all of Dick’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who will certainly miss him dearly. My best memories of Uncle Dick go back to the 1960’s when he took mom, dad and me fishing on his boat in Lake Erie and the excitement of pulling up 2 perch at a time on a spreader rig. I also appreciate all the times he and Marylin would visit mom in her later years. May the Lord quickly welcome Dick into Heaven and comfort his survivors.
