Richard E. “Dick” Remington, II

Richard E. “Dick” Remington, II, age 73, of Shelby and longtime Wooster resident, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 30, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Richard was born on May 4, 1946 to the late Richard E. and Margaret (Key) Remington in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dick was a graduate of Lenape Regional High School in Medford, NJ and went on to further his education at West Virginia University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Geology. Dick spent his career in the oil and gas industry, starting as an engineer with Halliburton before becoming a founder of Universal Well Service (UWS) in 1980. Dick’s energy, attitude, and spirit was key to Universal’s success. He continued to invest his time and talents into UWS until his retirement in 2015.
Dick was commonly heard saying he had a passion for “fast cars and slow trucks”. The prized vehicles in his collection included a Superformance MKIII, Daytona Coupe, Jeeps, and restored Toyota Land Cruisers. As a proud member of the Ohio Cobra Club, Dick always looked forward to LCS Mid-Ohio track days, the London Cobra Show, and the Ohio Cobra holiday parties. His many interests included time spent outdoors, hunting, and watching sports along with a passion for politics and keeping up with current affairs. Dick also spent time as a board member for Larad, Inc., a Wooster based vaccine company.
Dick was a humble man who was admired by many. It has been said that he did not have acquaintances, he had friends. Survivors include his wife: Margie (Risner) Taylor Remington; his sons: Richard E. (Allison) Remington, III of Boise, ID, Christian (Julia) Remington of Austin, TX, Jonathan (Raegan) Remington of Georgetown, TX, and Matthew (Ashley) Remington of Chicago, IL; 7 grandchildren: Oliver, Isla, Maya, Hudson, Dominic, Kevin, and Ke’Von Remington; step-children: Matthew (Mandi) Taylor and Laura (Chad) Heimlich both of Shelby; 5 step grandchildren: Madeleine, Makenna, and Ava Heimlich and Kate and Kelsey Taylor; his twin sister: Dale (Paul) Earl of Boston, MA; nephews: Brad (Rona) Earl and Jeff (Philippa) Earl; a great niece: Grace Earl; as well as other relatives and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his first wife: Celia (Croft) Remington in 2015.

Dick Remington was the finest man I ever had the pleasure of meeting. I am proud he was my friend.
Dick was one of the first guys I met when I started in the oil and gas business in 1979. He was a true gentleman and alway took time to catch up. His contribution to the business was incredible. Our deepest condolences to all family and friends. He will be missed.
The love that you two had for each other was palpable, Margie. You both glowed when looking at or speaking of one another. You each waited a lifetime to experience this true pure love. I wish you had more years together but am thankful beyond measure for the time that you did have.

My deepest and most sincere condolences. Dick was a man’s man. Having known him was a pure blessing. Our trip to Ducan Oklahoma is a trip I still talk about today. Godspeed my friend.
I had the pleasure to meet Dick about 4 years ago. He purchase Amsoil products for his vehicles. He truly is a humble kinda man. He will be missed. My condolences to the Remington family and friends! May God comfort you in this time of need!

Margie, So sorry for the loss of your husband. I lost my husband in October and truly understand what your are going thru. Remember the good times you had together. May God give you peace and comfort thru the difficult times.
My deepest condolences, dick was awesome! I remember his speech to the original 12 guys that started the nitrogen frac crew in Allen, ky in 2001. At the end of the speech he said we spent a ton of money so don’t mess it up. Big smile Hahahaha. RIP Boss
Ray and I had the privilege of sharing travel with Richard and Margie. We went to France, Memphis and Nashville together. So wish we could have shared more time with him/them. Richard visited us in Fla with Margie and so loved the shrimp from The Freezer. Richard was a true class act. We will miss him.
To know Richard was to love him. He had such a kind loving soul with a quick wit. A real pleasure to be around. And no matter how he felt he jumped at the chance to help out whoever needed him. We took advantage of his great knowledge of cars when he helped us find our car.
I am so glad that I got to know you for the wonderful man you were. Was a privilege traveling with you and Margie to France, Memphis and Nashville. Only wish we could have done more trips together. God Bless you Richard. You will be fondly remembered by many!

I am one of his fast cars friends. We both had the Shelby Daytona Coupes and we drove them at Mid-Ohio sports car track and had a great time. We vied for trophies at the Dublin Arthritis Show and celebrated at the London Cobra show. We drove the Hill Country of Texas in our cars and always enjoyed the company of our “Fast car” friends. I will miss him deeply as I experience these events without him. A wonderful man and a good friend. R.I.P my friend.
Our condolences and prayers to Dick’s family. We have so many fond memories of our early days at Halliburton. Those were meager days for our families with kids, but on weekends we all got together and had great food and laughter.
