Rebecca Ward Dalton

At 11:06 pm on November 11, 2018, Rebecca Ward Dalton fell asleep in the arms of Jesus; no more heartache, no more pain. She was the second child and first daughter born to Bascom and Maude (Sammons) Mills on September 12, 1918 in Martin County, KY. God blessed her to live 100 years, 1 month, 30 days. She always had a smile and the welcome mat was out for everyone she knew. When anyone visited, they never left hungry. Her grandchildren can attest to that.
In June of 1939, Rebecca married Edsel Ward. They were blessed with 4 children: Paul Douglas, Virginia Lee, Harold Dennis, and Kenneth Edsel. Tragically, Edsel was killed in a coal mining accident in 1951. She raised her children by herself until she met and married James P. J. Dalton in 1961 and he survives her.
Sadly, in addition to her first husband, Edsel, Rebecca was preceded in death by two sons: Paul Douglas Ward and Kenneth Edsel Ward; a grandson: Chad Ward; and a great grandson: Brian Ward. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a son-in-law: Donald Argo; two brothers: Ersel Mills and Arbie Mills; and two sisters: Artie Conley and Irene Boyd.
Rebecca is also survived by her son: Harold Dennis (Kathy) Ward of Ashtabula; a daughter: Virginia Lee Argo of Shelby; a daughter-in-law: Peggy Ward of Tennessee; 14 grandchildren: 21 great grandchildren: and 5 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother: Louis Mills; 3 sisters: Hazel Adams, Nelcie Combs, and Flo Ann Wilson; and a host of precious nieces, nephews, and so many more who loved her dearly.
She was an excellent gardener, both vegetables and flowers, and greatly enjoyed canning.
Rebecca was born again and baptized in 1969. She was a great asset to the United Baptist Church and always let her light shine for all the world to see. Her greatest desire was for her children, grandchildren, and all who would, to get their souls ready to meet God so we all could have that great reunion in Heaven.
Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 3-6 pm at the PENWELL TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, OH.
