Raymond L. Montgomery

Raymond L. Montgomery, age 46, of Shelby, died Saturday afternoon, January 16, 2021 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center East Hospital following complications from a battle with COVID-19.

Raymond was born November 28, 1974 in Auburn, IN. He was a 1994 graduate of Shelby High School and spent his career as a diesel mechanic. Raymond thoroughly enjoyed riding his Harley with friends, especially long rides, and absolutely loved hanging out with family and friends.

After two years of dating, Raymond married Lisa Marie (Wells) Montgomery on June 16, 1995. She survives along with 3 children: CPL Kalvin (Erica) Montgomery of Ft. Stewart, GA, Kevin (Leesha) Montgomery of Shelby, and Kaleb Montgomery of Shelby; a grandson: Matthew Montgomery and another grandson on the way, Tairck Montgomery; his mother: Rose (Montgomery) Fugate of Shelby; his father: Raymond and Shirley Collins of KY; half siblings: Rebecca (Timothy) Carter and Travis Collins; adopted brothers and sisters: Lynnette Walker, Jamie Spillman, Leona Temple, and James Robert Montgomery; his in-laws: Bob and Thella Wells; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his uncle and aunt who helped raise him and loved him as a son: James and Judy Montgomery; adopted brother: Patrick Walker; and grandparents: Ollie and Geraldine Montgomery.

Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 11 am. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven. Guests are respectfully asked to wear masks when visiting.

    Every now and again God calls his most faithful and adored soliders HOME to be with him and bring them peace and to end all suffering that they endured before God called them home.

    Raymond is HOME. He isn’t suffering anymore. He is adored and cherrished even more now that he is home.

    He will be checking in from time to time with all of us. So remember just how much he loved you and how much God has in store for you. REJOICE for him. REMEMBER him and live life like there is no tomorrow!

    Ray was a man that was dedicated to his wife and children. I worked with him for a few years and in that short time I was able to see his hardworking attitude, his love for his family, and his respect for others. He will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to meet him and get to know him. I pray for strength and comfort for the upcoming days.

    First and for more I will forever continue to use the lessons and compassion you showed to a once Lost little boy that you immediately told everything would be okay and you treated me no different then others within the family that saved a once very abused child and taught me what a man was to be .
