Penwell Turner Funeral Home - Shelby, Ohio

Nancy Ann Ousley

Nancy Ann Ousley, longtime Shelby, OH resident and currently of Winter Garden, FL, passed away late Monday night, October 21, 2024 at her home. Although Nancy struggled with various health issues, her peaceful death was unexpected. She was 77.

Born April 10, 1947 in Shelby, OH to the late Raymond Dean and Marjorie (James) Dawson, Nancy was a graduate of the Plymouth High School Class of 1965 from where she remained close with many special friends throughout her life. She then attended Mansfield Beauty College learning skills which she would master throughout her 40-year career as a hairstylist. As owner/operator of Gra Joy Beauty Salon in downtown Shelby, her work paired well with her welcoming, kind, and warm personality which made friendship making and conversation an ease. She ultimately finished her career at Nicole & Co. in Shelby, retiring in 2010.

Nancy was a person full of joy and happiness whose contagious smile made all she knew feel accepted and loved. She will be remembered for her kindness, vibrant spirit, and deep love for family. Nancy was always present, which was evident in never missing sporting events for her children, and later her grandchildren, and always cheering them on to success. Her hobbies varied but certainly included shopping. And although her entrance into the world e-commerce came later in life, she embraced and mastered it fully.

On May 28, 1967, Nancy married Clarence James Ousley and together they celebrated 57 years of love and devotion to each other. Clarence survives along with their children: Steve (Bekki) Ousley of Winter Garden, FL, Chad (Lynn) Ousley of Shelby, OH, and Jenny (Nick) DeVito of Windermere, FL; grandchildren: Becca (Jared) Schatzinger, Lukas (Mackenzie) Ousley, Liam DeVito, and Owen DeVito; great grandchildren: Rosalie and Henry Schatzinger and Dawson Ousley; her sister and brother: Lana Van Vlerah and Tom (Vicki) Dawson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.  In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister: Martha Coon; and brother-in-law: Mike Van Vlerah.

Guests are welcome on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 4-7 pm at the Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home, 1148 E. Plant Street, Winter Garden, FL. Additionally, family and friends are welcome on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 2-6 pm at the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, OH where funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 11 am. Rev. Dr. Russel Yoak will officiate the services with burial following in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, where Nancy was a member, 33 Broadway Street, Shelby, OH 44875.

  17. Jeff Van Vlerah says:

Aunt Nancy was a second mother to me. She meant so much to all of us, and the unbelievable lifelong relationship she had with her sister, my mother taught all of us what love and family nurturing and support is all about. From back in the 1980s popping into the hair salon down on high school Avenue after school for wavy mullet permanents in the back of our hair to being out on the farm in Shiloh, Nancy was an incredibly significant piece of the Dawson family. Aunt Nancy was real, she was honest and she was always available. She was a fantastic listener and offered some really good from the heart advice when needed. I know myself and the rest of our family will miss her greatly. Much love and hugs to Uncle C, Steve Chad and Jenny. Cheers to a life well lived and thank you for everything you were to all of us. Love you so much!
