Merle Junior Winters

Merle Junior Winters, age 89, of Shelby, died Monday, July 4, 2016 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

Merle was born March 20, 1927 in Marion County, Ohio to the late Merle and Nellie (Cain) Winters and was raised in Caledonia by his grandparents, the late Daniel and Anna Winters. He was a 1945 graduate of Scott Rural High School in Marion County and was a veteran of the United States Army. Merle worked in machine trades and tool and die, retiring from Weiss Industries in Mansfield. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed tinkering with cars.

Merle is survives by his 5 children: Dan (and friend, JoAnn Andrews) Winters, Terry (Tricia) Winters, Linda Winters Wills, Paul (Karen) Winters, Mike (Cathy) Winters all of Shelby; 14 grandchildren: Brandi Winters Johnson, Theresa Winters, Trever Winters, Teren (Tara) Winters, Trent (Krissy) Winters, Tara Winters, Tyler (Jordan Lusk) Winters, Geoff Wills, Bryce Winters, Chase Winters, Amber (Justin) Middleton, Tyson Winters, Kara (Andrew Moretto) Winters Lawrence, Grace Winters; 13 great grandchildren; and a niece: CarolynAnn Smith of Bucyrus. He was preceded in death by a grandson: Ian Paul Winters in 2006 and a sister: Anna Jane Hawk and her husbands, Charles Frederick Burrey and Jesse Hawk.

Funeral services will be private with burial in Caledonia Cemetery. Care for Merle and his family is being provided by Bob, Catherine, and Jake at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby. Memorial Contributions may be made to Shelby Helpline Ministries.
