Mary Alice “Boots” Onie

Mary Alice “Boots” Onie, age 87, of Shelby, died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.
Boots was born February 29, 1932 in Shelby, the daughter of the late Russell and Erma (Elliott) Brown. She was a 1950 graduate of Shelby High School. For many years she was the secretary for her parents’ business, Brown Electric and Plumbing. Boots enjoyed traveling, especially to Padre Island in the winter, gardening, and camping. Boots loved Christmas and shopped for it all year always starting over each year on December 26th. Humming birds and butterflies brought joy to Boots’ life and spending time with her family was always cherished. Boots was very creative and used those skills through crafting.
Surviving are 2 children: Debra Dorsey of Shelby and Randy Onie of Arizona; 6 grandchildren: Carrie (Devin) Berkani, Christy (Scott) Shackle, Curt (Alisha) Dorsey, Carla (Tom) Kithcart, Brittany Onie, Tristan Onie; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister: Betty (Jim) Yetzer of Shelby, and their children; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Boots was preceded in death by her husband: Harold D. Onie in 2003.
Family and friends are welcome on Monday, April 29, 2019 from 5-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 11 am. Pastor Ben Carver, pastor of Core Community Church, will officiate and burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Richland County Humane Society or to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
