Marilyn M. (Grandon) Kleer

Marilyn M. Kleer, age 86, of Shelby, died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at OhioHealth MedCentral Shelby Hospital.

Marilyn was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1929, in Mansfield, the daughter of the late Chester and Wilhelmina (Damlos) Grandon. She was a 1947 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and began her working career with a job at Mansfield Tire. She married John Kleer on May 30, 1948 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mansfield. Together they bought and operated Weber’s Café in Plymouth and later, Kleer’s Café in Shelby. She had also worked at various restaurants as a cook including, Shelby Country Club, Spinning Wheel, and Johnny’s Lunch. Marilyn was a very talented cook and baker, something she truly loved to do. Marilyn had devoted her time to being a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years. She was a crossword puzzle extraordinaire, enjoyed shopping, and used to enjoy walking with several ladies in her neighborhood.  She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby.

Marilyn is survived by 2 sons: James and Gail Kleer of Bucyrus, Steven and Karen Kleer of Lima; a daughter: Peggy Kleer of Columbus; 2 grandsons: Adam Kleer and Aaron Kleer both of Columbus; a sister-in-law: Marge Kleer of Howard, Ohio; and good friends: Luci Grimmer of Shelby, Betty Snyder of Mansfield, and Tess Love of Shelby. In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, John, on November 14, 2010 and two siblings, Naomi Carr and William Grandon.

Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 4-7 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 AM with Pastor Russel Yoak officiating. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church or the ABC Center.

    I am truly sorry for your loss. I too lost an adult parent and the loss was not easy. Keeping in mind what Jesus will do for our loved ones who have fallen asleep in death at John 5:21 and Psalm 37:11,29 have helped to sustain me, I hope that these verses will bring peace and comfort to your family as well.
