Marie Lillian (Barber) Robinson

Former Shelby resident, Marie Lillian (Barber) Robinson, age 93, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Thornapple Manor in Hastings, Michigan.

She was born in January 1921 in Rowan County Kentucky the daughter of Ray and Bertis (Staten) Barber.  She lived most of her life in Shelby, Ohio.  Marie worked at AMF and MYCA Industries in Shelby, and also at Lescola and Kendall Furniture in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

She is survived by sons: Frank (Mary) Robinson of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Gary (Diana) Robinson of Delton, Michigan; a brother: Gene (Barbara) Barber of Morehead, Kentucky; a sister-in-law: Dorothy Barber of Mansfield.  She is also survived by numerous grandchildren including a special granddaughter – Brenda Sue Robinson,  many great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Marie walked quietly through life and her family was very important to her. She enjoyed living at the family farm out on Laser Road where she always grew a very large garden and canned all the harvest for the winter provisions. She liked crafts and crocheting – making many afghans.

Preceding her in death were both her parents; a son: Raymond Robinson; brothers: Winford and Elwood Barber: sisters: Lois Barber, Murray Barber, and Mildred Dozeman;  a sister-in-law: Jean Barber.

Friends and family are welcome on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM conducted by Rev. O. Douglas Tackett.

Burial will be Oak Grove Cemetery in Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to Barry Community Hospice, 450 Meadow Run, Hastings, MI 49058 or any hospice of your choice.
