Margaret “Peggy” August
Margaret “Peggy” August, age 91, longtime resident of Shelby and currently of Alexandria, died Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark following a short illness.
Peggy was born on March 23, 1930 in Loyalhanna, PA to the late Adolph and Bessie (Kelly) Smith. A homemaker most of her life, Peggy enjoyed caring for and raising her family. She also had worked at Ben Franklin in Shelby for 10 years in the toy department as an inventory clerk. Peggy was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Peggy was a member of the Women of the Moose and the VFW Auxiliary. She, along with her husband, Joe, enjoyed traveling over the years. They went on cruises and many trips with the Moose Lodge to multiple conventions. Peggy loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow.
On October 29, 1949 Peggy married Joseph D. August, Sr., and he preceded her in death on November 19, 1998. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law: Olive and Joseph Giacolono; and brother: Richard Smith. Survivors include her children: Theresa (Robert) Kinsey of Shelby, Joseph D. August, Jr. (Linda Mitchell) of Statesville, NC, Debra Keene of Shelby, and Renee (Brian) Simpson of Alexandria; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother: Joseph (Barb) Smith of Derry, PA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 4-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 11 am. Father Chris Mileski will officiate and burial will follow in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 29 West Street, Shelby, OH 44875.

I didn’t know Mrs. August, only her son Joe. I’m very sorry for the loss of the children’s Mother, it’s always such a horrible feeling to lose your mother. Rest assured she’s no longer suffering and she is in a much better place in heaven.
