Penwell Turner Funeral Home - Shelby, Ohio

Margaret Elaine Smith

Margaret Elaine Smith, known to family and friends as Mag or Maggie, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday morning, December 4, 2022 following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Maggie was born March 7, 1937 in Bucyrus and was a 1955 graduate of New Washington High School. She was a 40-year employee of the Tuby in Shelby where she worked in sales and retired under the Copperweld ownership.

When you think of Maggie, you think of fun. She was always the life of the party and there was never a dull moment to be had.  She was quick witted and never one to complain. Mag had loved to golf- playing in league for many years, thoroughly enjoyed gambling- making several trips to Las Vegas, delighted in traveling, and liked fishing- especially at the cabin she and her best friend, June, had at Lake Erie. Mag was also an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and was a member of the Bucyrus AMVETS and Shelby Eagles.

Maggie is survived by her loving sister who was not just a sister, but a best friend and caretaker: Linda Mills; nephews: Doug (Amy) Shatzer and Scott (Allison) Shatzer; great nieces and nephews: Saulee (Bethany) Shatzer, Seth Shatzer, Tyler Shatzer, Zoe McNary, Alex Shatzer, Gavin Shatzer, and Grace Shatzer; great great nieces: Raynlee and Mylahh; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Helen Irene (Traxler) and Glenn Shoup; sister: Glenda Brooks; great great niece: Rozalee Shatzer; and best friend: June Adams.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 4-6 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will immediately follow at 6 pm with Rev. Kathy Kollar, OhioHealth Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to OhioHealth Hospice-Mansfield, https://foundation.ohiohealth.com/programs/hospice-giving.
