Lonnie Tackett

Lonnie Tackett, age 86, of Shelby, died Sunday, July 30, 2017 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital.
Lonnie was born May 18, 1931 in East Point, KY. He was the son of the late Sherman and Vergie (Whittaker) Tackett and was one of 12 children, including: Denvil Lee, John Jr., William J., Sam Henry, Edgar, Annie Rose, Lillie Mae, Martha, Mary, Cynthia, and Roxie.
Lonnie worked for 44 years for the railroad as a brakeman and car inspector. He started his career in Indiana and was transferred to Willard soon after where he met his wife, raised his family, and spent his career. Lonnie was a Christian man who attended several churches throughout his life including the Plymouth Church of God. Lonnie loved traveling and gardening, was a hard worker, and specifically enjoyed going to different places and talking to many people.
On August 9, 1958, Lonnie married Olive Given, and she preceded him in death on March 21, 2001. In addition to his wife and parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Rachel Tackett. Survivors include his 4 children: Becky (Ricky) Parrish of Bellevue, Bill (Terri) Tackett of Davisburg, MI, Gary (Lynn) Tackett of Plymouth, and Steve Tackett of Bellevue; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 5-8 pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 am. Pastor Rick Lewis of Shelby Church of God will officiate and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven.

Our prayers and deepest condolences to Lonnie’s family. He will be sadly missed. We enjoyed his visits, stories, jokes and smiles over the years. Lonnie had such a sweet and loving heart. He truly loved the Lord and was not ashamed to share his faith. Heaven has certainly gained a wonderful angel.
He was my neighbor and best friend he was like my grandpa I took him for skin surgerys I’m going to miss him so much
