Leora Margaret Merritt

Leora Margaret Merritt, age 86, of Shelby, passed peacefully Wednesday night, May 7, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret was born February 26, 1939 in New Straitsville, Ohio to the late Joseph and Helen (Clark) Downs.  She demonstrated a lifelong dedication to serving others, which was evident in her role as a server at The Coffee Shop in downtown Shelby and subsequently at Bob Evans until her retirement.  On September 4, 1954 she married David L. Listening to music brought Margaret great joy, especially Elvis.  She loved the Lord and often spent time reading scripture.

Margaret is survived by her children: Kathy Merritt, David Merritt Jr., Rock Merritt, Margie Tackett, Nathan Merritt, and Mark Merritt all of Shelby; numerous grandchildren including: Bethany; numerous great and great great grandchildren including: Owen, Clover, and Luca; brother, Bill (Betty Jo) Downs; and numerous other relatives and friends. I am so sorry to hear of Margaret’s passing although I know she is where she longed to be… with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I will always remember sitting under her teaching of God’s word because it gave me a feeling of sitting at the feet of Jesus. She had such an anointing on her life. I know she loved the Lord. I pray for strength and peace over this family during this difficult time.
