Leonard “Darrell” “Lenny” Slone

Leonard “Darrell” “Lenny” Slone, of Shelby, died Friday, December 29, 2017 at his home on his 73rd birthday.

Leonard was born December 29, 1944 in Dema, Kentucky the son of the late Canton and Lora (Little) Slone. He was a 1963 graduate of Wayland High School in Wayland, Kentucky. He began his working career at General Motors in Ontario working in the tool and die department before his promotion to the CAD/CAM Department Supervisor. He retired in 2004 after 34 ½ years of service.

When his children were young, Leonard coached Little League Baseball for 15 years. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and following his grandchildren in their various activities.

On June 8, 1963, Leonard married Billie Jean (Keller) Slone and she survives. Also surviving are his children: Deidra “Dee Dee” (Michael) Paulo of Shelby and Robert “Rob” (Tonya) Slone of Silver Lake, OH; 4 grandchildren: Alyssa Paulo, Alex Paulo, Jacob Slone, and Karly Slone; a sister: Beulah (Don) Pifer of Shelby; a brother: Douglas (Sandy) Slone of Mansfield; Special family friend: Joni Crenshaw. Nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws: William and Vila Keller; Brother-in-law: Harry Keller.

Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 4-7 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at a later date. Funeral services will not be observed.

    Leonard was my first Little League coach, in 1976 for Carton Service. He and my dad also coached Kentucky Fried Chicken two years later. They were good friends. I remember visiting the family when you lived on Taylortown Road.
