Larry Lee Swinning
Larry Lee Swinning, age 76, of Shelby, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at The Gables at Green Pastures in Marysville after a brief illness.
Larry was born June 25, 1937 in Dayton, the son of the late Bertha M. (Jackson) and Wesley E. Swinning, Sr. Larry retired in 1992 from General Motors in Ontario after 32 years of service. He was a hard worker, keeping his yard and cars meticulous, and could fix or build anything. Larry loved to golf and took several golfing trips with family and friends to Myrtle Beach and various other destinations. He was a member of Woody Ridge Golf Course and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and target shooting.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia L. (Sarver) Swinning, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this coming August 25. Also surviving are: a son: Larry P. Swinning and his companion, Donna Schmitz of Shelby; a grandson: Shane D. Mills of Lucas; a great grandson: Tayshawn D. Mills; a sister: Diane (Richard) Rodney of Canfield; 2 brothers-in-law: James P. (Kaleen) Sarver of Marion and Richard Gould of Marysville; numerous nieces and nephews; good friends: Bob McClain and Ron “Bongo” Herzog. He was preceded in death by: a daughter: Deborah Lee Swinning; 3 brothers: Wesley E. Swinning, Jr., James T. Swinning, and Joseph G. Swinning.
Friends and family are welcome on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 11:30 AM- 1 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held at 1 PM with Pastor George Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
