L. David Workman

L. David Workman, age 80, of Shelby, died Thursday afternoon, March 3, 2022 at Ontario Estates.

Dave was born May 9, 1941 in Shelby to the late Herbert Lawrence and Alda Mae (McConnell) Workman. He was a 1962 graduate of Shelby High School. His work life consisted of Jay Scott Construction, Bourgeois Pontiac in Shelby, and Bloom and Johnson Auto Body Shop for 28 years. Ultimately, he retired in 2005 from Shafer Valve where he worked in the paint shop for 10 years.

Cars were not only the biggest part of his career, but they were mainly a hobby and a passion. From fixing to restoring, Dave could do it all- painting, glass, frames, anything. He also was a collector and especially loved his Studebaker which was his all-time favorite that he has cherished for over 40 years. Dave was well known for his work on Corvettes and had helped fix many over the years. In addition to cars, Dave enjoyed hunting and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Shelby.

Dave is survived by his 2 sons: William (Denise) Workman of Olive Branch, MS and Michael (Richelle) Workman of Ontario; 6 grandchildren: Ryan Workman, Grant Workman, Michaela (Ryan) Jenkins, Megan Workman, Valerie Workman, and Jacob Workman; great grandson: Jaxon Jenkins; 3 siblings: Thelma Jean Payne of Orlando, FL; Mark Workman of Woodsfield, and Rhonda Lynn (Greg) Workman Woodsfield;  brother-in-law: David Calvert of Lorain; sister-in-law: Barb (Jeff) Grycz of Lorain; 2 aunts: Lucielle Smith and Marvalene McConnell; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years: Sandra J. (Calvert) Workman; 2 brothers: Dennis Workman and Terry Workman; and an infant sister.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 2-4 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 11 am. Dave was a hoot. I had the privilege of working at Elmcroft and we took a liking to each other very quickly. Man, he could complain about winning the lottery, but he was a very kind hearted and descent man. I know he worked hard and had so much pride in the work he did. I wish I knew a tenth of what he knew about cars. He loved his family very much and very proud of his boys too. My prayers are with you all
