Kathleen Kay “Kathy” Friebel Wiegel
Kathleen Kay “Kathy” Friebel Wiegel, age 55, of Brighton, CO entered this world on April 2, 1963 in Shelby, Ohio. After a five-year battle with cancer, she left this world on June 1, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.
Kathy was born in Shelby to Joan (Flaherty) and Raphael “Butch” Friebel. She was a 1981 graduate of Shelby High School and attended Pioneer Joint Vocational School. Following graduation, Kathy enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. After encouragement of Colorado’s beauty from family and friends, Kathy transferred to Fort Carson, CO, a place she always wanted to live, and remained there the rest of her life.
She moved throughout Colorado before settling in the Denver area. In April of 1997, while working at Pep Boys in Wheatridge, CO, her entire life changed when she met her one true love, Jon, whom she married on August 30, 1998. Kathy went to school in Boulder, CO from 1997-1999 to earn certifications in herbology & nutrition. While in school, she started her own successful business, Green Woman Herbs.
Kathy lived simply. Her pride was being a wife and mother and she enjoyed caring for her family and being a homemaker. A very giving person, she would always offer an herbal remedy for anything that may be ailing you. Kathy was a major animal lover- both fur and feathered. She adored all her fur babies, including her four-legged friends: Maximus, Sakari, Jade, and Lynx. Also, the ones who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge; Stoney, Sheena, Tikani, and Jewel.
The world lost a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend and many hearts are heavy with the void Kathy leaves. Kathy will be remembered as a mentor to many. Her love for all living things, including people, animals, and nature, will be missed by all. A friend to everyone, her passion for others was second to none. We mourn the loss of her earthly presence knowing that we will rejoice as she is at peace in Heaven.
Kathy is survived by her best friend, soulmate, and husband: Jon Wiegel of Brighton, CO; her children: Jes Wiegel and Hannah Wiegel both of Brighton, CO and Jennifer Strickland of Nashville, TN; her father: Raphael John “Butch” Friebel of Shelby; and her siblings: Shannon (Shelley) Friebel, Valerie (Rick) Stone, and Jodie Gumbert all of Shelby; and her mother-in- law and father-in-law: Dorothy Wiegel and Gary Wiegel. She is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews; 9 great nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Friebel, in 2012.
Funeral services took place in Colorado on June 6, 2018. To celebrate Kathy’s life with her local Friebel family, all are welcome on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 1-3 pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a short prayer service will immediately follow at 3 pm. A reception will immediately follow at St. Mary’s School, Shelby. Memorial contributions can be made to Kathy’s children, Jes and Hannah Wiegel, and left in care of the funeral home.
