Katherine M. “Kate” (Stoller) Oesch
Katherine M. “Kate” (Stoller) Oesch, age 87, of Shelby, died peacefully at her home , Friday, December 12, 2014 surrounded by her family.
She was born April 29, 1927 in Paulding County, Ohio the daughter of Michael George and Magdelina (Manz) Stoller. She was a graduate of Paulding County High School. Following the early death of her husband, John, Kate began a 30 + year career at Westbrook Country Club in Mansfield where she was fondly known by many as Katie. She was a member of Apostolic Christian Church on Illinois Avenue in Mansfield where she was a very active member. She was an extensive traveler, having visited every continent except Antarctica and Australia. She enjoyed restoring her family home, reading, gardening, sewing and making wine from grapes grown on her farm.
Kate is survived by her 15 children: Michael (Jackie) Oesch of Alabama, Cheryl (Ed) Schumacher of Shelby, Cinda Walp of Tennessee, Sally (Mel) Westcott of Texas, Sara (Chuck) Jones of Shelby, Nancy (Paul) Dorinsky of North Carolina, Judy (Dennis) Witt of Cincinnati, Lori McCartney of Shelby, Mary (Jim) Cartwright of Texas, Dr. Betsy Oesch of Texas, Kristi (Alaric) Cauley of New Jersey, Tammy (Dave) Grauer of Ganges, Amy (Jeff) Murray of Shelby, John (Lori) Oesch of Portsmouth, Traci Sonon of Shelby; Son-in-law: Chip Fugate of Pennsylvania; 31 Grandchildren; 8 Great grandchildren; 4 siblings: Anna Marie Plummer, Delores Riggenbach, Josephine Stoller, and Jet (Jeannie) Stoller.
She was preceded in death by her husband: John J. Oesch in 1974; a daughter: Heidi M. Fugate in October 2014; a grandson: Ryan Schumacher in 1976; and by 2 brothers: Ellsworth Stoller and Kenneth Stoller.
Friends and family are welcome on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 2-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM with Mark Masters and Fred Domka officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.

My prayers and thoughts are with everyone. Katie was so special and never met a stranger. Her gifts from homemade cookies to dandelion wine, to cards sent every year on my birthday are just a glimpse of what a kind and thoughtful person she. I miss her dearly but I know her fight was up. Mrs. Oesch was quite a lady! I use to love spending the night there! We would sit around the big table for breakfast. I think they only had one bathroom, not sure about that, but I got up in the middle of the night and Mrs. Oesch was painting the stairway. She just smiled and said “This is the only time I can paint it!”. I remember her sitting at her sewing machine a lot! And each of the kids have a nick name. I think Sally’s is Cat. She will be missed by many! I am so sorry for your loss. Many memories!

My deepest sympathy to all the family. One of my favorite memories of my childhood was going to the Oesch farm to spend the night. No matter how many children your mother had to feed she could always squeeze in a few more. I had a blast everytime I spent the night. From trying on costumes to crawling thru the hay tunnels to drinking homemade wine. Lol. Never a dull moment that’s for sure. I pray that God will bring a feeling of peace in all your hearts and you will know that your mother is in heaven and is waiting for your family circle to be together someday. I love all of you and will continue to remember your Mother.

Lori, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time of grief. It has been such a rough year for you. It is so difficult for those of us left behind. I’m sure you hear it from everyone, but in my heart I believe that God calls us to Him in his perfect time. And that our loved ones await us without pain or suffering until such time as our spirits are reunited. I didn’t know your mother well, having only met her the one time she was in Florida last year. But she was such a lovely woman! What a legacy she has left. 🙂

My Thoughts and Prayers are with the Oesch family today and this week. Mrs. Oesch got me my very first job at Westbrook Country Club (very kind of the BoD to add a condolence), and I, too, was a beneficiary of the hospitality of the Oesch’ for weekend winter fun on the snowmobile and three-wheeler. I will never forget her – I hope you all can rejoice in the happy memories of a great lady!

Some of my favorite childhood memories are the times that I had on the Oesch farm with Mary, Lori and the rest of the family. Kate was always so awesome (with a huge smile on her face) and it was so much fun to be around such a large and energetic family. It is also a very treasured memory to have had the opportunity to reminisce about old times with Kate and the family when Becky was in hospice.
