Penwell Turner Funeral Home - Shelby, Ohio

Joseph R. “Joe” Kuhns

Joseph R. “Joe” Kuhns, age 53, of Shelby, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital.

Joe was born April 26, 1968 in Fremont, Ohio, the son of the late Vivian (Snow) Mesnard and Russell Kuhns. A machinist by trade, Joe was most recently employed by MD&A Turbines in Marion. Joe was an incredibly talented woodworker- not just a woodworker, but truly an artist. His intricate pieces often moved those he crafted them for to tears because of their beauty. Joe was also incredibly handy and, as the saying goes, was a “jack of all trades and master of none”. Together with his wife, Shelley, they enjoyed throwing darts and were members of Life Point Community Church in Plymouth where Joe was active with the security team.

Shelley was a true caregiver to Joe throughout his illnesses and always told her that she “was his angel.” Shelley now has Joe as hers. Joe married Shelley (Evans) Kuhns on June 10, 2017, and she survives along with his children: Amanda Jo Mata and Anthony Kuhns both of Tiffin; grandchildren: Kaia, Cora, and Sophia; stepchildren: Brennan Osborn of Cleveland and Luke Rundag of Mansfield; special friends: Dawn Irving and Dwight and Brandi Gregory; and other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 4-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11 am. Pastor Rich Hurles will officiate the services and burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to Shelley Kuhns for assistance with offsetting medical bills and left in care of the funeral home.

Appropriate ways to express sympathy for those unable to attend may be done by leaving an online condolence on Joe’s obituary at www.PenwellTurner.com or by leaving a comment on his post on the funeral home’s Facebook page, Facebook.com/PenwellFuneral.
