Penwell Turner Funeral Home - Shelby, Ohio

Jeanne T. Gosser

Jeanne T. Gosser, age 59, of the Shelby Settlement, died late Sunday night, September 22, 2019 at The James Comprehensive Care Center in Columbus. Her death came after an unexpected and aggressive cancer diagnosis one week prior.

Jeanne was born October 3, 1959 in Shelby to the late Cletus C. “Dick” and Cornelia A. “Nellie” (Metzger) Young. She was a 1977 graduate of Buckeye Central High School and had attended Pioneer Joint Vocational School. Jeanne was employed with United Telephone Company in Mansfield for several years prior to staying home to raise her family. She then began working as a cafeteria worker for Pioneer before moving to the Shelby City School system where she was still currently employed as a cafeteria worker in the high school.

Jeanne was an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved visiting with people and was always the organizer and group leader to bring people together. Although cooking wasn’t her passion or hobby, she knew that it was what would always bring her family together, which is what she truly loved. Being outdoors was always welcomed to Jeanne, whether that be mowing, gardening, or tending to flowers.

On February 28, 1981, Jeanne married Rick Gosser, who survives. Also surviving are 4 children: Ryan Gosser (Steve Zgleszewski) of Boston, Dawn (Jake) Fraizer of Crestline, Jacob (Annie) Gosser of Crestline, and Cody Gosser (fiancé, Taylor Van Wagner) of Shelby; 4 grandchildren: Sully, Ashlyn, and Emmy Fraizer and Michaela Gosser; 2 additional grandchildren on the way; 3 brothers: John (Julieta) Young of Huston, TX, Ken (Marilyn) Young of Lexington, and Tim (Jo) Young of Shelby; and numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, her sister, Judy Young McClurg, preceded her in death.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 3-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a rosary will be recited at 7 pm with Deacon Steve Vogt leading. Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 5742 State Route 61 South, Shelby, Ohio 44875. Msgr. Dennis Metzger and Fr. Christopher Bohnsack will con-celebrate the mass and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

I don’t know if Jeanne used this expression in her adult years, but she was famous for saying it when we were kids in grade school: “For cryin’ in the bucket!” It popped into my mind last night when I was laying in bed, thinking about my dear first cousin, Jeanne… and it was perfect–FOR CRYIN’ IN THE BUCKET, Jeanne, we’re not ready to let you go!!!!! I am so glad I got to see Jeanne in August at the Metzger Reunion. She was a special, wonderful cousin and I will miss her so much!!! ~ Julie
