Jean Ann Newmeyer
On December 18, 2018, Jean Ann Newmeyer, age 57, went home to her Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with Pleomorphic Sarcoma, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Jean was born April 11, 1961 in Shelby to Theodore and Kay (Livingston) Newmeyer. She was a 1979 graduate of Shelby Senior High School, 1983 graduate of Ashland College and received her master’s degree from Mt. Saint Joseph College. Before retiring in 2018, Jean was a teacher and coach at Indian Lake Middle School in Lewistown, Ohio. She enjoyed spending time with her family attending baseball games and going to drag races to watch her nephew and brother race. She also enjoyed scrapbooking and cardmaking.
Survivors include her mother: Kay (Livingston) Newmeyer, brother: Tim (Debbi) Newmeyer, and nephew: Lee Newmeyer (Fiancé Morgan Sutter) all of Shelby; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father: Theodore “Ted” Newmeyer in April of 2018, her maternal grandparents: Hubert and Vivian Livingston, and paternal grandparents: Henry and Harmina Newmeyer, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at PENWELL TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the funeral home at 10 AM. Rev. Jeff Gray will officiate. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Chris Anders-I just want to say I’m sorry for your loss.Jean started teaching at Indian Lake with me and Diana Brunner over twenty-five years ago.We were all looking to retirement at the same time.I am the only one remaining of the three.I will truely miss Jean and her good heart.She truely loved her students and it showed amongst the students.Thanks Jean for letting me share your life.
Jean will be greatly missed. She was such a role model for me in the field of special education and coaching, and I’m going to miss asking for her advice. It won’t be the same without her here. Thank you for sharing her with us.
In 1993, I started my teaching career in the room next to Jean in the red hall of the old middle school in Lewiston. We became fast friends and had so much fun teaching together! Even after I moved to Westerville, we stayed best friends and continued to share ideas for our students. We also shared a great love of Lighthouses and the beach. We took many day trips in the summer months to Marblehead Lighthouse and Toft’s Ice Cream shop. We were hoping for one last visit this year together.
Thank you Tim and Mrs Newmeyer for letting me say goodbye to Jean last week. I really wanted her to know how special she was to me and how much I loved her! You’re such a wonderful family!
I will miss her so much, but I am blessed to have shared so many wonderful memories with Jean. She will forever be in my heart because my life is better because she shared her life with me! ❤️
I admire how committed Jean was to her students and her ILMS family. She will leave a hole in our hearts, but she leaves a legacy of compassion and understanding of all youth who have attended our school system. Jean has left the world a better place, and I am glad that I have known her.
Kay & Tim and family, I knew the family from First Church of God when I attended there a few years ago. I was sorry to hear about Jean but she is no longer in pain and she is with her Lord and Savior as well as her dad. My thoughts and prayers are with you all in the coming days as well as the holidays. Just keep looking up and rely on the strength from the Lord.
I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to Debbi Newmeyer and her family in the loss of Debbi’s sister-in-law. She was very concerned about her sister-in-law when I was at the beauty shop recently.

I crossed paths with Jean as an educator and Coach. I didn’t realize I was at Ashland U at the same time for a year. I never knew she was older than me as she possessed a youthful spirit with her school activities. She was always very positive and upbeat and quite pleasant to talk to. Her memory will live on as she touched the lives of so many people.
