Janice E. “Jan” (Elston) Eichinger

Janice E. “Jan” (Elston) Eichinger, age 71, of Shelby, died Sunday, November 17, 2019 at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after an extended illness.

Jan was born March 5, 1948 in Albion, Michigan and was a 1966 graduate of Shelby Senior High School. She worked at Fisher Big Wheel in Shelby for many years and retired from Shelby City Schools as a custodian at Auburn Elementary School. Jan will always be remembered for her outgoing and spunky personality and was never one to keep an opinion to herself. She was a very involved, loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her 2 children: Rich (Angie) Eichinger of Ashland and Connie (Billy) Castle of Shelby; Grandchildren: Bobby Lewis Castle, Amber Marie Castle, Autumn Grace Castle, Anna Rachel Kisor, Samantha Richelle Eichinger and Quentin L. Craft;  Great grandchildren: Maddison, Hadley, Ryleigh, Alexandria, Jaxon and one on the way; Also surviving are a sister: Carol Barber and an aunt: Esther Dake both of Shelby.

On June 11, 1966 she married Frederick William “Fred” Eichinger and he preceded her in death in 2006. Also preceding her in death were her father: Corl Maurice Elston; her mother and stepfather: Mildred Louise “Milly” and Russell T. Page.

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, November 22, 2019 from 5-7 PM at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 10:30 AM by Dr. Rich Rader. Burial will follow in Little London Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to Myasthenia Gravis Association, 2340 East Meyer Blvd, Building #1; Kansas City, MO 64132.

    I don’t have many memories at Aunt Connie’s house growing up that don’t include Jan. She will be sorely missed. I know the grief is harsh right now, but know that she is no longer in pain and will always be alive in your hearts. I love you all! May she Rest In Peace

    It’s hard to put into words about losing Jan to that dreadful disease. She was one strong lady who fought a battle for a long time that finally won. I will miss my neighbor very much but have so many good memories she will never be out of my mind. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family as they deal with this loss. RIP Jan…you deserve it.

I haven’t lived in Shelby for many years but she was the one person I kept in touch with. She was a big part of my years in Shelby and I will always remember her for being a good friend.
