James Ray Ingram

James Ray Ingram, age 78, of Shelby, died unexpectedly at his home.

 He was born November 9, 1935 in Scranton, Kentucky the son of the late Bertis and Minnie (Brown) Ingram. Jim was a graduate of Frenchburg High School in Frenchburg, Kentucky and was a United States Air Force veteran serving as an airborne radio operator in Military Air Transport Services. He began his working career in 1959 at the Ontario General Motors Plant and in 1979 transferred to the GM plant in Decatur, Alabama from which he retired. Currently, Jim was a driver for Skarl Motors in Shelby.

 In his retirement, Jim and his late wife, Berdie, enjoyed traveling to flea markets and fairs selling oriental rugs. Jim loved following all of Kentucky sports, especially the Wildcats. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Shelby Country Club. He attended the Church of God on London West Road.

 Jim is survived by his daughter: Denise (Jerry) Nye of Shelby; 2 step sons: John (Joni) Greathouse of Shelby and Kevin Greathouse of Cullman, Alababma; 6 grandchildren: Jessica Nye, Benjamin Nye, Abigail Nye, Jon Greathouse, Jamie Payne, Christina Greathouse; 4 great grandchildren: Jaxon Payne, Journey Payne, Taylor Greathouse, Morgan DeNero; a brother: Denzil (Maureen) Ingram of Shelby; a sister: Reba Montgomery of Monroe, Ohio; and a close friend: Kathleen Stamper of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Berdie Lucille Ingram in 2000.

 Family and Friends are welcome on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 4-7 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 PM by Pastor Rick Lewis. Military honors will be conducted by the Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
