James L. Swanger

James L. Swanger, age 78, of Shelby, died early Thursday morning, August 16, 2018 at his home.
Jim was born June 4, 1940 in Shelby, the son of the late Kenneth W. and Esther J. (Kegley) Swanger. He was a 1958 graduate of Shelby High School. Jim was a former employee of Home Appliance and Harriman Roth. However, Jim spent the majority of his time, and was most comfortable, in his garage where he owned and operated his own body and muffler shop. For over 20 years, Jim and his wife, Bev, camped at Auburn Lake. Together they attended several NASCAR races and Jim continued to enjoy watching races on TV. He had also enjoyed playing golf with his sons.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly J. (Wenning) Swanger, whom he wed on April 12, 1961; 2 sons: James L. Swanger, Jr. (Liz Brown) of Shelby and Jeffery L. (Annette) Swanger of Louisville, KY; a daughter-in-law: Julie (Ken) Swanger Ensman of Shelby; 7 grandchildren: Kayla (John) Roberts, Erica (Tyler) Fairchild, Curtis (Ashley) Swanger, Keith Swanger, Cory (Sam) Swanger, Korey (Megan) Hartman, and Allison Hartman; 6 great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Quinn, Madilyn, Cayden, Lyla, and Sylas; 2 brothers: Charles (Lorraine) Swanger of Mansfield and Douglas (Lorraine) Swanger of Mifflin; a sister: Marilyn (Tommy) Watts of Shelby; 3 sisters-in-law: Peggy Estep, Joanne Milliron, and Susan Swanger all of Shelby; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: John William Swanger in 2008; a brother: Kenneth L. “Larry” Swanger; and 2 brothers-in-law: Doug Estep and Paul Milliron.
Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 2-5 pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.

I will always remember our Saturday afternoon and evenings spent with Uncle Jim, Aunt Bev and cousins getting candy at the store, walking up to Paul’s drive in. Love and prayers to Aunt Bev, Jimmy, Jeff, Julie and to our whole connected family and friends.
