James L. Niese

James L. Niese, age 78, of Crestline, died Monday, January 12, 2015 at OhioHealth MedCentral Shelby Hospital.

 

Jim was born October 30, 1936 in Miller City, Ohio the son of the late Waldo and Cecelia (Rieman) Niese. He was a graduate of Tiro High School. Jim worked 10 years at AMF in Shelby and then began a career at Peabody-Galion which later became McClain EZ Pack from which he retired after 34 years of service. Jim grew up as part of a hard working farm family which was something he continued after his retirement by working for his brothers. He was an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem. Jim was a member of the Shelby Knights of Columbus Council #1968 where had been past grand knight and was the chairman of their Measure Up Campaign for over 25 years – something he was very proud of. He was a former member of Shelby Moose. Jim enjoyed golfing and watching all sports- from his grandchildren to the Cleveland teams.

 

Jim is survived by his wife: Shirley (Norris) Niese, whom he wed on May 11, 1957; 7 children: Mark (Karla) Niese of Norwalk, Lori (David) Riedel of Centerville, VA, Dale Niese of Hilliard, Paul Niese of Shelby, Lisa (Gary) Langjahr, David (Lowren) Niese, Craig (Jenny) Niese  all of New Washington; 16 grandchildren; 4 brothers: Jerry (Carol) Niese of Crestline, Joe (Maxine) Niese of Crestline, Robert (Lillian) Niese of Shelby, Thomas (Dorothy) Niese of Tiro; 1 sister: Mary Ann (William) Tabor of Georgia; a sister-in-law: Susan Huss of Luckey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son: Keith McCurdy Niese in 2009.

 

Friends and family are welcome on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where the rosary will be recited at 8 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 5750 State Route 61 South, Shelby with Father Christopher Bohnsack officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.Memorial expressions may be made to the church or to the K of C Measure Up Campaign.
