James A. “Jim” “P-Nut” Payne
Family and friends are welcome on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 4-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. For those attending, the family has requested that everyone wear their best sporting attire in memory of P-Nut.
James A. “Jim” Payne, but to those who know him best, P-Nut, died Monday, January 17, 2022 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following a brief and unexpected illness. He was 78.
He was born June 17, 1943 in Crestline to the late James C. and Rose M. (Arcudi) Payne. A 1961 graduate of Shelby High School, P-Nut worked at Midwest Aircraft Products Co. (MAPCO) and retired from there following a 50+ year career in the industry.
P-Nut had been a longtime Shelby Little League coach, served on their board for many years, and was always a huge supporter of Shelby baseball. P-Nut was an avid sports fan specifically rooting for the Cincinnati Bengals, The Ohio State University Buckeyes, the Cleveland Indians, and the Boston Celtics. He was a member of the Shelby Moose Lodge #422 and Shelby Owls Nest #2553.
Jim is survived by his life partner: Stacy Crosby; 4 sons: Jeff (Abby) Payne of Shelby, John (Erin) Payne of Marshalltown, IA, Jason (Claudia) Payne of Mansfield, and Jeremy (Jamie) Payne of New Port Richey, FL; the mother of his children: Jacqueline Bauer; his grandchildren whom he adored and always supported in all of their activities: Darien, Kaylee, and Caden Payne, Brecken and Bryson Payne, Isabella Payne, and Jaxon and Journey Payne; and extended family and a host of friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene R. “Butch” Payne.

Stacy and family. Condolences to all. I always had fun picking on Pnut about his beloved Cincinnati Pussycats. I’m glad he got to see them win big this year. He was a sweet and gentle man. Rest in peace.
I was very sorry to hear about Jim’s (P-Nut) passing. We were on safety patrol together when we were in grade school and attended high school together until we graduated.

I was heart broken to hear of P-Nuts passing! He is dearly loved and missed and always will be. I didn’t know him nearly long enough, but the impact he made will be life long! My deepest condolences to Stacy and his family.

Sorry to hear of the loss of Jim (P-Nuts). My brother Tom was in P-Nuts class and we spent time at his house watching Ohio State basketball. My prayers are with the family

My heart goes out to and your family during this difficult time. I never met P-Nut but through conversations with you over the years, I felt like I had. I hope the comfort and strength of friends and family will help you heal one day at a time through this sad time.
It is with great sadness that I read about Jim’s passing. I worked with Jim many years ago at Mansfield Aircraft. We called him simply “Nuts” and he was an absolute delight to work with. My family will keep Jim and his family in our thoughts and prayers. And, to P-nut: I’ll catch up with you later.
