Imogene Shepherd
Imogene Shepherd, age 80, of Shelby, died Saturday, July 23, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.
Imogene was born on August 20, 1941 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late George and Versie (Bailey) Shepherd. She worked in various positions over the years from being a beautician in Virginia to a cafeteria worker at Northeast Elementary School in Meridian, Mississippi, then retiring in the early 90’s from Van Dresser in Norwalk- there was nothing Imogene couldn’t do! She was a member of Greenwich Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star.
Imogene was an avid gardener and loved flowers, especially her roses. She enjoyed shopping for clothes and shoes- the blingier the better! – and loved when she could find a bargain. Imogene was a great cook and made the best apple pie, but was known for her pickled corn and fried green tomatoes. When you visited her, you never left hungry and always had a soft drink in your hand. For 80 years young, Imogene was the “original gamer” often skipping out on sleep just to play Tetris and Space Invaders on her computer. Imogene was a strong-willed stubborn lady who was truly the rock of the family and loved them all so much.
On July 26, 1958, Imogene married her husband, David H. Shepherd, and he preceded her in death on March 16, 2017. In addition to her parents and husband, Imogene was preceded in death by her son: David Anthony Shepherd. Those left to cherish her memory include her son: Eric Bartley “Bart” Shepherd of Greenwich; daughter: Palma Jean “Pam” (Frank) Reed of Shelby; grandchildren: Justin Daniel (Kim) Smith of Iwakuni, Japan, Jared Frank (Alison) Smith of Marietta, Hunter David (Kristin) Reed of Mansfield, and Helaina Maria (Mason) Johnson of Ashland; great grandchildren: Danielle Jean Smith, Logan Paul Smith, Liberty Marie Smith, Roland Reed Johnson, Charlotte Jean Johnson, and Gunner David Smith; siblings: Dosie Bailey Baldridge of Mansfield and Velva “Bev” Bailey Carty of KY; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from 11-1 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will immediately follow at 1 pm. Pastor Rita Bullock will officiate and burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Imogene. She was a neighbor and friend since our Junior year in high school.. I will miss her.
My heart is broken . I will always remember the wonderful times in Shiloh. Mom always would say I was just like her. She will be miss by so many people. Love you all.
I am very sorry for your loss. My prayers are with the family!!
Pam, Jared and family. Our hearts are heavy for your loss. She was a warm and wonderful lady.
Love to all of you.
You’re in our prayers.
Imogene was beautiful on the outside and on the inside. I remember her and Dave at church at the Greenwich Church of Christ. They were a lovely couple. Imogene was a hard worker when she lived in Greenwich. She kept their large yard and home immaculate, and raised a large garden
and beautiful flowers. She shared tomatoes with me one year, and they made the best tomato juice.
Jim and I were there for hers and Dave’s 50th wedding anniversary, and if I did my math right, they were married over 58 years when Dave died.
Sincere sympathy to your entire family. A beautiful light has gone out, but I know she will always be in your hearts, and you will remember all the good and happy things that you shared in her life.
Jared and Family,
