Harmon E. Eckstein

Harmon E. Eckstein, 90, of the Tiro area, died Thursday, October 18, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born March 9, 1928 in Vernon Township, Crawford County, Ohio the son of the late Emery and Ethel (Magers) Eckstein.
Harmon was a veteran of the Merchant Marines serving during WWII. He worked in construction as a carpenter most of his life, as a member of Local 735. Harmon was the oldest living member of Shelby Moose Lodge 422. He was one of the founding members of the Crawford County Coon Hunters and Sportsman Club. In his younger years, Harmon and his wife, Wilma, enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Michigan, and coon hunting, and fishing.
On April 12, 1947 Harmon married Wilma Jean Burgin, and she preceded him in death on January 7, 2009. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Ross Eckstein and a sister, Mabel Wilson.
He is survived by his children: Leslie (Skip) and Karen Eckstein, Linda and Jack McCarthy and Tonya and Chris Fike all of Tiro. He was very proud of and found great pleasure in his 8 grandchildren: Scott and Kelly McCarthy, Tricia and Joe Hopple, Todd and Jackie Fike, Mindy and David Pifher, Tamra and Ted Kaple, Dan and Michelle Eckstein, Kevin and Amy Eckstein and Tim and Renee Eckstein and his 24 Great grandchildren. Three sisters in law also survive: Betty Eckstein, Pam Burgin and Cheryl Luke.
Family and Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm at the PENWELL TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 168 W. Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 am at the funeral home by Deacon Steve Keller. Burial will be in Sandusky Township Cemetery in Crawford County.
