Penwell Turner Funeral Home - Shelby, Ohio

Gloria J. Ault

Gloria J. Ault, age 79, of Shelby, died Monday night, January 10, 2022 at her home with her family at her side.

Gloria was born on March 21, 1942 in Shelby, Ohio and was a 1960 graduate of Shelby High School. Gloria attended Wittenberg University and received her teaching certificate from The Ohio State University. Gloria taught at Plymouth Elementary, Dowds Elementary in Shelby, and for Milford School District in Cincinnati. Upon returning to Shelby, Gloria worked at First National Bank for over 20 years and retired as a Real Estate Loan Officer. After retiring, Gloria and her husband, Larry, opened Ault’s Country Tyme Shop in 1998 and in 2000 expanded to rug hooking, woodworking, and stained glass.

She was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church and served on church council for several years where she had also been President. Gloria was also a member of the Malabar Foundation and the Malabar Spinning and Weaving Guild where she was also President.  Her rug hooking hobby made it possible for her to travel to England twice with fellow rug hookers to study old rugs of English descent. She enjoyed watching sports, was an avid reader, and loved her sweets- in particular, cookies. Gloria’s grandchildren were her life and spending time with them, and her entire family, always brought her happiness and joy.

On April 25, 1986 she married Larry C. Ault and he survives. Also surviving are four children: Stacy Adams of Mansfield, OH, Jodie (Andy) Hopkins of Alexandria, OH, David (Mary) Ault of Marriotsville, MD, and Beth Curtis of Alexandria, VA; 6 grandchildren: Madison Curtis, Cameron Curtis, Matthew Ault, Jack Ault, Nicholas Adams, and Drew Hopkins; and dear friend: Julie Thorton. She was preceded in death by her father: Charles Sharkey, Jr.; mother: Dorothy Gannaway; and dear friend: Marie Steele.

For the care, guidance, and compassion shown to Gloria, the family would like to thank Dr. Das, Avita Home Health Care and Hospice, Marlene Steele Adkins, Pastor Rus Yoak, and the Penwell Turner Funeral Home.

Family and friends are welcomed on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 4-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral Services will be on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 10:30 am at First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway St, Shelby with Pastor Rus Yoak officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church.
