George Edward Willman

George Edward Willman, age 89, of Shelby, died Thursday, December 20, 2018 at his home.

George was born February 22, 1929 in St. Stephens, Ohio, he was the son of the late Aloysius and Margareta (Hofmann) Willman. George was a carpenter all his life. He worked for Pennsylvania Railroad as a bridge builder and later retired in 1986 from Copperweld in Shelby after 35 years of service. He was also the former owner of Tucker Car Wash.

George was a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels and his hobbies included restoring tractors, fishing, and playing cards. He was a self-taught jack of all trades who constantly learned new skills throughout his life that allowed him to be able to fix anything.  He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Shelby Knights of Columbus Council 1968.

George was a great family man and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice M. (Alt) Willman, whom he wed on May 24, 1952. Also surviving are 7 children: David Willman of Shelby, Sr. Alice Marie (Judy) Willman, SND, of Toledo, Christine (David) DeVito of Shelby, Mary Louise (Michael) Rietschlin of Shiloh, Edward (Lorie) Willman of Shelby, Benedict (Felicia) Willman of Mansfield, and Barbara (Michael) Mascolo of Wadsworth; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister in law: Donna Willman. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Willman, and a sister, Mary Theresa Burns.

Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the PENWELL TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a rosary will be recited 3:45 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 10 am at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 29 West Street, Shelby with Fr. Chris Mileski celebrating. Burial will follow in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church or St. Mary School.
