Fred Lucas, Jr.

Fred Lucas, Jr., age 97, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Liberty Nursing Center of Mansfield.
Fred was born March 17, 1919 in Akron, the son of the late Verna and Fred Lucas, Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. Fred was a truck driver his entire career working for both Lee Way Motor Freight and Westinghouse both in Mansfield. He enjoyed archery and was member of Mohican Bowhunters.
On June 16, 1941, Fred married Catherine Jean Metz and together they celebrated 66 years of marriage until her death on February 13, 2007. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law: Bill and Betty Lucas of Mansfield; 2 grandchildren: Sean (Ashlee) Lucas of Ashland and Jaime Lucas of Mansfield; and a step great grandson: Jayden. In addition to his parents and his wife, Fred was preceded in death by: an infant son: Frederick Lucas; and 3 siblings: Lloyd Lucas, Floyd Lucas, and Dorothy Browning.
Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 10-11 AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Graveside services will follow calling hours at 11:15 AM at Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Pastor Jack Hackworth, Pastor of Cook Road Baptist Church, will officiate the services with military honors conducted by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Humane Society.

Bill and Betty, So sorry to see the news of your father’s passing. My prayers are with you and your family. Didn’t know your dad, but imagine you are much like him. Thankful for his army service for this country.
