Elwood “Bud” Leggett
Elwood “Bud” Leggett, age 91, of Shelby, died Friday, March 25, 2022 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital surrounded by his family.
Bud was born June 23, 1930 in Doddridge County, West Virginia to the late Raymond and Amy Agnes (Primm) Leggett. He was a 1950 graduate of West Union High School and was a proud U.S Navy veteran on the USS Hornet from 1950-1955. He was a member of The American Legion, O’Brien Post 326. Bud was a carpenter his whole career retiring from Weithman Brothers in Galion and a member of the Carpenter Local Union No. 735.
Bud enjoyed woodworking and working on engines. He also loved being outdoors and gardening. Bud, along with his wife, Margie, traveled many years to Florida together during the winter.
On November 9, 1957 Bud married his wife of 64 years, Margie J. (Dotson) Leggett, and she survives. Also surviving are his three children: Tim Leggett of Mifflin, Becky Leggett of Shelby, and Jeff (Julie) Leggett of Shelby; three grandchildren: Jeremiah (Claire) Leggett, Jodi Leggett, and Brian Leggett; great grandchild due in July; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his brother: Elwin Leggett.
Graveside services will be held with the family in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. Care for Bud and his family is being provided by the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. I am so sorry to read about the passing of Bud. I always looked forward to “shooting the breeze” with him. He was an honest hard working gentleman and that is not easy to find. I am comforted that dad will have his best friend to talk with.
