Ellen L. Payne, age 76, of Shelby, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

She was born December 25, 1939 in Morehead, Kentucky the daughter of the late Roscoe and Irene E. (Jones) Binion. Ellen was a graduate of Plymouth High School and retired from Miami Systems in Shelby. She was very active with the Shelby VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she had been secretary for many years. She also volunteered her time and talents making wheelchair bags for veterans.

Ellen is survived by 2 sons: Vincent and Judy Payne of Pelham, GA  and Gregory W. Payne and Kristin Quinn of Cincinnati; 3 sisters: Betty Menshouse, Carol Wireman, and Sheila Booram; a brother: William “Ed” and Judy Binion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: George W. Payne in 2000 and 2 sisters: Darlene Damron and Dorothy Hench.

Family and friends may call on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 10-11 AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a service at 11 AM followed by the funeral service  with Pastor Dave Davenport of Faith Baptist Church in Ontario officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Tiro.
