Edward J. Kurtzman

Edward J. Kurtzman, age 70, of Shelby, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at his home.
Ed was born September 6, 1946 in Shelby, the son of the late Joseph C. and Eleanor (Arrona) Kurtzman. He was a 1964 graduate of Shelby High School and attended North Central Technical College. Ed was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Germany during the Vietnam era. For 33 years, Ed worked at Milliron Industries as a bookkeeper in the office and retired in 2014. He was a very active member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and involved in several ministries. Ed was a Eucharistic Minister, usher, greeter, money counter, RCIA team leader, past festival chairman, and constant volunteer for all parish and school functions. He was a member of the Shelby Knights of Columbus Council 1968 where he served as the most recent past Grand Knight from 2014-2016.
Ed was a follower of The Ohio State University Buckeye’s football and all Shelby Whippet athletics, having served as a past president to the Shelby Whippet Athletic Boosters. He was an avid racing fan and car enthusiast, especially loving his Corvette. Above all else, he thoroughly enjoyed following his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, whom he loved so very much.
Ed is survived by his wife, Beth Ann (Channing) Kurtzman, whom he wed on November 29, 1969. Also surviving are 2 sons: Scott (Tracy) Kurtzman and Jeff (Misty) Kurtzman both of Shelby; 5 grandchildren: Ashley Kurtzman, Alex Kurtzman, Jensen Kurtzman, Ryleigh Kurtzman, and Jackson Kurtzman; 2 great grandchildren: Karli and Ryan; a brother: Dennis (Susie) Kurtzman of Mansfield; a sister: Valerie (Tim) Brown of Australia; 2 brothers-in-law: Jim (Karen) Channing and Al (Carolyn) Cummings; 2 sisters-in-law: Jayne (Denny) Vanderpool and Lois Channing; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 am at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 29 West Street, Shelby by Fr. Chris Mileski. Military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary School.
