Douglas M. Williams

Douglas M. Williams, age 72, of Shelby, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at his home.
Doug was born January 16, 1944 in Drift, Kentucky the son of the late Walter and Mary (Bartley) Williams. He moved with his family to Shelby as a young child. He was a 1965 graduate of Shelby High School and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Doug retired as a lineman for the City of Shelby Electric Department after 30 years of service. Following his retirement he worked part time for the City of Shelby Parks Department. He attended the First Baptist Church in Shelby.
Doug enjoyed cruises and traveling all over the world. When his children were young he was a coach for Shelby Little League. Doug loved his children and grandchildren and his greatest joy was spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years: Carol (Laubie) Williams, whom he wed on May 6, 1966; 4 children: Kimberly (Steve) Sipes of Galion, Sheila (Ed) Snyder of Strongsville, Troy (Michelle) Williams of Holland, OH, and Ryan Williams of Shelby; 8 grandchildren: Erica and Jessica Snyder, Mikayla and Troy Williams, Katelyn and Trevor Owens, Joseph and Jacob Williams; a sister-in-law: Margaret (Larry) Jones; brothers-in-law: Jeff (Becky) Laubie and Jim (Janet) Laubie. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Gabrielle Williams and by his in-laws, Joseph and Lois Laubie.
Friends and family are welcome on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 4-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10 AM. Rev. Walter Keib will officiate. The Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors and burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to First Baptist Church or to Hospice of North Central Ohio.

No words can express my sorrow at this time! Uncle Doug you will be missed something awful! I am so glad that Lou got to see you last week and am deeply sorry that I did not! I will forever cherish all of the life lessons you taught me throughout all the summers I spent at your home.

Doug was such a kind man and had a love for God. He was always helpful and willing to give his time for others. I am so sorry for this painful time that his family is experiencing. I pray you feel his comfort as he continues to love you from above.
Uncle Doug was a great man who is leaving behind a wonderful legacy. He was a friend and blessing to everyone. My heart is broken about his loss. I will keep praying for the family.

Eddie (Doug’s nephew) and I were so very sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. We are praying for peace and comfort for all of you. Please accept our most sincere condolences……….AND our apology for not being able to attend funeral services. We were not aware of arrangements in time for travel. Also, please keep Opal (Doug’s oldest sister) in your prayers. She is very ill at this time! She was very proud of her baby brother.
