Doris Elaine Yetzer

Doris Elaine Yetzer, age 88, of Shelby, died Sunday, July 3, 2022 following a courageous battle with cancer at The Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Doris was born March 4, 1934 in Meadville, PA to the late Harold Meredith and Elsie Ada (Burgess) Hunter. She was a 1953 graduate of Shelby High School and worked in the office at Ohio Seamless Tube following graduation prior to getting married. Doris was the owner and operator of a dog grooming shop called Pretty Pup Shop. She was an active member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, and the Altar Rosary Society.

Doris enjoyed learning and researching genealogy- a hobby she had for over 30 years. She was the past president and treasurer of the Richland County-Shelby Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society and member of the Ohio Genealogical Society, Shelby Cycle Historical Society, and the Shelby Historical Society. She along with her husband, John, were founding members of the Catawba Point Association, Lake Erie in 1981. Doris was the past treasurer of the Circle “S” Shelby Riding and Driving Club- her love for horses started at a young age and culminated with her owning a National Champion Quarter Pony.

On July 2, 1955 Doris married her husband of 67 years, John Martin Yetzer, and he survives. Also surviving are her children: Christina Lynn Drain, Susan Marie (Thomas) Lowery, Daniel Martin (Angela) Yetzer, and Jennifer Ann (Dana) Pennell, all of Shelby; grandchildren: Katharine (Scott) Daniels, Sean Drain (fiancé Jane Henthorn), Phillip (Erin) Lowery, Anne (Nathan) Young, Steven (Kaylin) Lowery, Rachel (Neil) Jakubowski, Rhiannon (Troy) Keary, Taylor Yetzer, Caitlin Barrett (Daniel Eilenfeld), and Brooke (Nathan) Korbas; 12 great grandchildren; brother: Terry (Diana) Hunter of Shelby; siblings-in-law: Joan Ashley, Dave Yetzer, and Marge Yetzer; cousins: Rochelle Heubach of Mobile, AL, Paulette Kendrick of Chattanooga, TN, Maurice Brooks of Mobile, AL, and Stephanie Brooks of Mobile, AL; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her brother: Harold Merton “Dutch” Hunter; and her infant sister: Lois Hunter.

Family and friends are welcome on Monday, July 11, 2022 from 6-8 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a rosary will be recited at 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 10:30 am at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 29 West Street, Shelby. Fr. Chris Mileski will celebrate Mass and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, the Shelby Cycle Historical Society, or the Richland County Humane Society.
