Donna Jean (Alt) Hicks

Donna Jean (Alt) Hicks, age 81, of Shelby died Thursday, October 20, 2016 at her home.

She was born January 25, 1935 in New Washington, Ohio the daughter of the late Harry and Genevieve (Cole) Alt. Donna was a graduate of New Washington High School and retired from AMF in Shelby. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she was active in the Daughters of Isabella and the Altar Rosary Society. Along with other members of Altar Rosary Society, Donna baked birthday cakes regularly and delivered them to Abraxas. She also volunteered at St. Mary School and at Shelby Helpline preparing clothing for the annual Christmas program. Donna enjoyed reading, traveling, and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially by following their activities. She was also an avid game and card player with her friends.

Donna is survived by 3 daughters: Wanda Harris of Tucson, AZ, Jayne Browning of Indianapolis, IN, and Joni (James) Young of Shelby; 7 grandchildren: Michael (Katrina) Barker, Brandon Barker, Rachel Miller, Lori Browning, Anthony (Sarah) Young, Kevin Young, and Kenneth (Holly) Fritz; 9 great grandchildren: Alyssa Barker, Ruby Barker, Kaiden and Sienna Miller, Vivian and Valerie Young, and Alivia, Kennedy, and Maxtyn Fritz; 5 brothers and sisters: Raymond (Sue) Alt, Donald Alt, Lowell Alt, Ruth Kouns, Jayne Alt; a sister-in-law: Lucille Walton; and a special niece: Elizabeth Hanson. In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by: her husband: Robert J. Hicks in 1996; a daughter: Lori Lee Fritz in 2002; a son-in-law: Frank Browning; and an infant grandson.

Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where a rosary will be recited at 7:45 pm led by the Daughters of Isabella. Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday at 10:30 am with Fr. Chris Mileski celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
