Donald G. “Don” Argo

Donald G. “Don” Argo, age 81, of Shelby, died Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at his home.

He was born March 15, 1936 in Shelby the son of the late Aril and Ella (Jenkins) Argo. Don was a 1954 graduate of Shelby High School and was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1955-1958. He began his working career at Michigan Standard Tube Company in Shelby and retired from the Shelby Autocall Company.

Don appreciated the simple things. He was most grateful for the people in his life, especially his family, and his personality allowed him to never meet a stranger. Don enjoyed playing slow pitch softball for many years, liked watching sports on TV, and smoking the occasional cigar.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Virginia L. (Ward) Argo, whom he wed on October 25, 1958; 3 children: Teresa (Grant, Jr.) Milliron, Mark Argo, and Barry (Lynne) Argo all of Shelby; 8 grandchildren: Kristi (Dan) Parrigan, Angie (Mick) Kimmel, Jessica (Nate) Serrano, Stephen (Bailey) DeWitt, Jennifer (Ryan) Yetzer, Hayley (Chad) Young, Emily (Tyler) Tate, Dylan (Kristin) Argo; 9 great grandchildren: Austin and Lauren Parrigan, Felicia, Gwyn and Lydia Kimmel, Mackenzie Studer, Sam Young, Ansley Argo, Iris and Zaydie Tate; his mother-in-law: Rebecca (Jay) Ward Dalton of Shelby; 5 siblings: Ron Argo, Rex (Donna) Argo, Sandra Mount, Debbie (Chuck) Eshelman, Penny Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gary Argo, and his father-in-law, Edsel Ward.

Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 12 Noon at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Graveside services will immediately follow in Oakland Cemetery conducted by Pastor Rich Hurles of LifePoint Church in Plymouth. Military honors will be conducted by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
