Donald Earl Swanger
Donald Earl Swanger, age 84 of Shelby died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, June 27, 2019.
Don was born November 7, 1934 in Shelby the son of the late William K. and Grace E. (Gutshall) Swanger. He was a 1952 graduate of Shelby High School and attended DeVry University where he received an associate degree. Don was the co-owner of Swartz TV Sales and Service in Shelby. A Cleveland Indians and Browns fan, Don liked gardening and genealogy. His mornings were spent at McDonalds with his friends solving all the world’s problems. Most of all Don especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their activities.
He is survived by his children: Cynthia (Francis) Scruci of Bowling Green and Scott (Stephanie) Swanger of Shelby; 7 grandchildren: Adam (Vanessa) Swanger, Bruce (Megan) Swanger, Carolyn (Kevin) Montgomery, A.J. (Jessica) Alt, Aaron (Kate) Alt, Abram Swanger and Samuel Swanger; 6 great grandchildren; 3 siblings: Glenn Swanger, Bill Swanger and Elsie Shepherd; brother-in-law: Bill (Rhea Jane) Swartz; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
On July 31, 1954 he married Marguerite “Jane” Swartz and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2001. Also preceding him in death were his parents; a son: David Swanger; siblings: Frank Swanger, Beatrice Baker, Gladys Ewing, Helen Lybarger, Kenneth Swanger and Mildred Pugh.
Family and friends are welcome on Monday, July 1, 2019 from 5-8 PM at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 11 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Ben Carver of Core Community Church officiating. Burial will be in most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to the Shelby Athletic Boosters.
