Penwell Turner Funeral Home - Shelby, Ohio

Dixie D. Schneider

Dixie D. Schneider, age 61, of Shelby, died early Tuesday morning, October 1, 2024 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Born July 9, 1963 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio to the late Russell Ivan and Marilyn Mae (Scott) Lang, Dixie graduated in 1981 from River View High School. Always having an outstanding work ethic, Dixie’s working life began in the restaurant industry where she elevated to managerial roles for a total of 13 years. On July 4, 1994 she married DeWayne A. Schneider and shortly after took time away from her work to raise her family. As her children grew, she returned to the workforce and most recently worked at Meijer in Ontario as a pricing associate.

Dixie was a fisherwoman through and through with her favorite fishing pond near their home. She loved being outside and enjoyed nature, not only fishing, but also birdwatching and keeping her feeders full. She especially loved sitting on her deck, surrounded by hummingbirds, flowers, and her cats. Additionally, she thoroughly enjoyed playing cards with her family.

More than anything else, Dixie cherished being a mother and was so proud of her kids and all their accomplishments. She always had a listening ear and consistently offered encouragement and support all while maintaining her witty sense of humor. In addition to her husband, DeWayne, Dixie is survived by her son: Skylar Branstool of Shelby; daughter and son-in-law: Kristen and Joseph Martin of New Jersey; siblings: Glen (Kim) Lang of Alabama, Charles (Natalie) Lang of Mt. Vernon, and Sandra Sapp of Mt. Vernon; in-laws: Bernard and Gayla Schneider; and numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Dixie was preceded in death by her sister: Cheryl Rine; and mother-in-law: Carol Schneider.

Calling hours and funeral services will not be observed. Care for Dixie and her family is being provided by the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Condolences may be left on the funeral home’s website (PenwellFuneralHome.com) or their Facebook page (Facebook.com/PenwellFuneralHome).  For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. I worked with Dixie at Meijer. She was a wonderful person and would always put a smile on your face early in morning when she would come in with her music loud on her phone and dancing and singing.
