David A. Hartz

David A. “Dave” Hartz, age 58, of Shelby, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 after suffering an unexpected brain aneurysm.

Dave was born July 14, 1963 in Shelby to Charles Floyd and Kay (Miller) Hartz. He was a 1981 graduate of Shelby High School and Pioneer Joint Vocational School where he was in the Machine Trades Program.  For over 25 years he was the owner and operator of Hartz Manufacturing- his CNC machine shop. A man of God, Dave was an active member of Taylortown Community Church where he served the church in various capacities and volunteering efforts. As “the handiest guy ever”, Dave was a very skilled craftsman, always wore cowboy boots and loved western movies, and enjoyed visiting Lake Erie and riding Sea-Doos.

Dave is survived by his wife, Marlo D. (Koerner) Hartz, whom he wed on May 5, 2005; his children: Seth Hartz, Markie Hartz, Mariah (Clay) Armstrong, Hollie Hartz, Nicholas Hartz, Stephen (Meghan) Fryer, II, and Mason (Annalee) Fryer; grandchildren: Millie, Myah, Jasmine, Alexis, Sean, Scarlett, and Silas; mother: Kay (Miller) Hartz; sisters: Cathy (Bill) Gardner and Sandra Tener; and other relatives and friends. His father, Charles Floyd Hartz, preceded him in death along with is brother-in-law, Mark Tener.

Funeral services will be private. Care for Dave and his family is being provided by the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby.

    I graduated with Dave from Shelby. I had lost touch until years later his son and my son played basketball at the Shelby YMCA. Then again at a church in Ontario. In 20018 they were on a robotics team together. Dave was instrumental in helping them with developing their robot. I always enjoyed talking to him. He was a kind soul. Marlo, when I first met you, I enjoyed talking to you each and every time I saw you. You both had have a way of making people feel special and important. I am deeply sorry for your loss.
