Clifford McGarvey, Jr.

Clifford McGarvey, Jr., age 88, of Shelby, died Friday evening, January 24, 2025 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital.
Cliff was born November 4, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Madeline Katherine (Sweeny) and Clifford McGarvey, Sr. A 1954 graduate of East High School in Youngstown, Cliff served in the United States Naval Reserves. A 25-year employee of Johnson Controls in Youngstown, his experience in the HVAC industry led him to start his own company, McGarvey Heating and AC, in Youngstown. Cliff and his wife, Laura, moved to Shelby from Salem, Ohio in the mid-1990s locating them closer to family. Once here, Cliff worked for Crestview Schools and ultimately in the IT world for a company named Circon writing computer programs and later performing online estimates.
Cliff lived a life of continual learning and peaked interest in any and all topics. He truly was always interested in something and his mind never shut down. His hobbies and interests took him everywhere from air to land and sea. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf, thoroughly enjoyed flying as he was a pilot, and loved boating, having a boat for many years on Lake Erie. A self-taught musician, Cliff loved to play the violin and ukulele, to sing and also enjoyed teaching others how to play as well. Cliff absolutely adored his grandchildren and, besides his wife, Laura, his greatest love was his precious dog, Bo.
Cliff is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lauralee (Koch) McGarvey, whom he wed on June 29, 1957; children: Brian McGarvey of Alliance, Michael (Alba) McGarvey of Hemet, CA, Laureen (Peter) Fenninger of Lake Mary, FL, and Dr. Kevin (Tina) McGarvey of Plymouth; grandchildren: Jamie Oglesby, Jason (Sonja) McGarvey, Aaron (Anatalie) McGarvey, Shelby McGarvey (Sam Boyce), Autumn (Cody) Snyder, and Katie (Nick) Tubbs; great grandchildren: Andrew, Alyssa, Rosie, Baylor, Asher, and Adlee; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by his siblings: Charles McGarvey, Madeline Scarfo, and Marlene Kratofil.

My deepest condolences. So many wonderful memories of Cliff, John A, and Tom M hunting, fishing, and backyard BBQs!
Cliff gave me a summer job after I got out of the Navy. We were driving back home at the end of the day and I was dosing off. He would swerve the truck just enough that I would sway back and forth to wake me up… he was a joker!
May God bless the McGarvey family.

I had the complete pleasure of being one of Clifford’s nurses’ @ ccc. He was always coniving a way to call Shelby taxi to get them to take him where he wanted to go. Then his lovely Laura would tell him NO you can’t do that. I definitely miss him and visits I had with the both of them
