Clayton Charles Moore

Clayton Charles Moore, age 86, of Shiloh, died Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born August 12, 1932 in Shelby, the son of the late Ortiz and Artie (Goldsmith) Moore. Clayton graduated in 1950 from Union High School.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean war, stationed in Germany. He spent 34 years as an employee of General Motors in Ontario and farmed the family farm at the same time. Clayton was a laid-back guy who “liked to pace himself”, whether it was smoking his pipe or drinking coffee.

On February 14, 1960, he married his sweetheart, Ruth Sylvia Craven and she survives. Also surviving are 6 children: Diane Moore of Fredericktown; Connie (Bill) Stepp of Ashland; Kathleen (Jeff) Witmer of Ashland; Lorraine (Steve) Earnest of Lexington; Jenifer (Mike) Goldsmith of Shiloh; Vincent (Robin) Moore of Parma Heights. 11 grandchildren: Zach Stepp, Zane (Michelle) Stepp, Luke Witmer, Lyndsay Witmer, Chase Witmer, Courtney Earnest, Jillian Earnest, Sylvia Goldsmith, Alex Goldsmith, Clayton Moore and Nicole Moore. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother: Jay (Maxine) Moore and a sister: Mildred (Paul) Brown.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 1-3 PM at Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will follow at 3 PM at the funeral home conducted by Tom Caswell. Military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Burial will be in Shenandoah Cemetery where the Moore family has been buried their loved ones since 1812.
