Clara Mae (Rolle) Robertson

Clara Mae Robertson, age 99, formerly of 104 Glenwood Drive, Shelby, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at the Crestwood Care Center after a long illness.

She was born May 28, 1907 in Borup, Minnesota the daughter of the late Leo John and Lena M. (Schmidtknecht) Rolle. Clara graduated from Borup High School and graduated from St. John Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, North Dakota. Her first nursing position was at Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She has lived in Shelby since 1933, having worked at Shelby Memorial Hospital and also as a private duty nurse. She was the first nurse in the dispensary at Wilkins Air Force Depot and held the position of head nurse for 17 years. After her retirement from the depot, she was employed as a nurse at the Tuby for a short time. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society and the Ministry of Praise Team.

Clara is survived by 3 daughters and spouses, Patricia Witter of Richardson, Texas, Kathleen and Arch Knostman of Dayton, and Dolores and Gene Leonhardt of Shelby; a step son and his wife, Gordon and Mary Ann Robertson of Shelby; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandsons. She was married to Paul H. Robertson for nearly 50 years and he preceded her in death in 2002. Also precededing her in death was a granddaughter, Andrea Leonhardt Actherhoff in1993, a brother, Walter Rolle, and 5 sisters: Leona Keller, Ella Roesch, Grace Rolle, Helene Rolle, and Sr. Mary Ignatious, OSB.

Friends may call on Friday, July 21, 2006 from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
