Catherine E. Baker

Catherine E. Baker, age 101, of Shelby, died early Sunday morning, December 24, 2017 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Catherine was born August 2, 1916 at home in Franklin Township, Richland County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Earl and Faye (Mundey) Dunlap. Catherine was an excellent homemaker who was very active on the family farm helping in all aspects of its operation. Catherine was proud of her chickens and eggs, that she spoke of often throughout her life, which produced many eggs that were taken to the hatchery in Shiloh. They always counted on her to provide. She had very large and amazing flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed canning, sewing, and crocheting. Catherine loved to bake and always made sure everyone had enough food and was well taken care of when visiting. She cared for beautiful African Violets, helped with 4-H as an advisor for several years, and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby where she was active for many years.

On November 28, 1936 she married Earl C. Baker and he predeceased her in 1999. Also preceding her in death were: her parents; granddaughter: Victoria Lantz; and sister and brother-in-law: Edith and Gus Culbertson.

Catherine is survived by: 2 daughters: Joyce Meyers of Sunbury and Betty (Ronny) Ryland of Shelby; 4 grandchildren: Charles (Suki) Lantz, Jr., Ronald (Tracy) Lantz; Rebecca (Andrew) Fichtelman, and John Ryland; 12 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11 am at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby with Gaye Shira, Visitation Pastor at First Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11 am. Burial will follow in Little London Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church.
