Bruce Marvin Petty, Sr.

Bruce Marvin Petty, Sr., age 67, of Tiro, died Friday, December 3, 2021 at Avita Health System Bucyrus Hospital following a brief and unexpected illness.

Bruce was born September 29, 1954 in Mansfield to the late David W. and Ruby E. (Russell) Petty. Bruce was incredibly proud to be a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving our country for 4 ½ years primarily stateside and also in Japan. Bruce has been a truck driver his entire life, starting while in the military and never stopping. He loved driving truck and had no plans to retire, driving to the very end. For 20 years, he and his family have owned and operated B.M.P. Trucking LTD.

Bruce enjoyed going to truck and tractor pulls and loved his F-350 “mini” truck, which, although large in size, was still smaller than his semi. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles with his son, Bruce, Jr., and Jason. Bruce loved his family and spending time with them whether that be attending their events, enjoying a picnic, or going to his sister-in-law Jean’s for a banana split.

Bruce is survived by his wife: Cathy J. (Laferty) Petty; 3 children: Stacy (Darryl) See, Bruce Marvin Petty, Jr., and Hayden all of Tiro; 6 grandchildren: Darryl See, Millie See, Destiny Petty, Katelyn Petty, Christian Petty, and Carson Petty; his dog: Jake and cat: Miss Kitty; brother: David W. (Marlene) Petty, II of Marion; sister: Pamela Flannery of FL; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Jean and Kevin Phelps of Bloomville; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by a son: Bradley Petty.

Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 1-4 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby,  where funeral services will immediately follow at 4 pm. At the conclusion of the services, military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
