Barbara Carol Baker
Barbara Carol Baker, age 78, of Shelby, died in the hospice unit of OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness.
Barb was born July 8, 1944 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Glen and Beulah (Ballengee) Parsley and graduated in 1962 from Northwest High School in McDermott, Ohio. Barb worked for Shelby Business Forms for over 35 years, retiring at its closing under the Miami Systems ownership.
Barb was an active member of the Shelby Senior and Community Center where she enjoyed the exercise classes and often helped with their fundraiser dinners. She also had been a volunteer at Shelby Helpline Ministries and her hobbies included playing cards, reading, cooking, and travels with her companion, Steve, to listen to music or for other adventures. Truly, Barb loved any time she could spend with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children: Kellie (John) Caporini of Ashland, Chris Conley (Diane Arter) of Shelby, and Blair (Caylah) Baker of Willard; grandchildren: Austin (Jaylin) Baker, Ryleigh Baker, and Ella Baker; a great granddaughter due in January 2023: Brynlee; special friend and companion: Steve Young; her husband Bob’s children and their families; sisters: Bonnie Emmons of McDermott, Sally Wright of Houston, TX, and Paula (Bill) Parrish of Houston, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her first husband: Clay Conley on August 30, 1982; second husband: Robert R. “Bob” Baker on December 29, 2015; and brother-in-law: Jack Emmons.
Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 11 am-1 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will immediately follow at 1 pm. Pastor Lester Champer, Pastor at Shelby First Church of the Nazarene where Barb was a member, will officiate the services. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby Senior and Community Center, 154 North Gamble Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875.
