Amanda Renee (Morgan) Cooke

Amanda Renee (Morgan) Cooke, age 39, of Columbus, died on Sunday, April 26, 2020 of unexpected natural causes.

Amanda was born on September 17, 1980 in Ravenna, Ohio. She was a 1998 graduate of Rootstown High School. Amanda furthered her education at Baldwin Wallace University, Kent State University, and IUPUI before becoming a professional homemaker. She excelled in raising her family and being an excellent wife. Amanda was a part of various groups which supported parents and children. She consistently fought for and aided in her children’s successes. Her Christian faith was especially important to her and she now peacefully rests in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

Running was something that encompassed Amanda’s life. Her accomplishments in running were many as she easily logged more than 3,000 miles annually. She was an avid marathon runner, completing well over 25, and had participated in various 100k trail runs. A proud accomplishment of Amanda’s was the completion of a 100-mile run, which took place on Route 66 beginning in Oklahoma, and took nearly 24 hours to complete. Quite literally, more people have been to outer space than have completed this amazing feat that Amanda achieved. However, to Amanda, running was much more than the act. Her participation in more 5k and 10k races than you could count nearly always supported a worthy cause. As a certified trainer, Amanda not only trained and encouraged in the sport of running, but also in their personal lives and accomplishments. All these triumphs in the world of running are representations of what made Amanda not only a successful runner, but more importantly, an outstanding wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

On October 24, 2012, she married Justin Lane Cooke and he survives. Also surviving are 6 children: Jacob Raynor, Liam Raynor, Natalie Raynor, Rex Cooke, Norah Cooke, and Graham Cooke all at home; parents: Bill and Margaret Morgan of Rootstown; mother-in-law: Karen (Wetz) Cooke of Ashland; 10 siblings: Lisa (Tommy) Dozier, Josh Bentley, Josh (Tina) Morgan, Rachel (Glen) Hillegas, Melinda (John) Wooten, Katie (Dan) Knapp, Emily Morgan, Hannah Morgan, Naomi Morgan, and William Thomas Morgan, III; sister-in-law: Kristin (B.J.) Kerr; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Mary Strickling and Bill and Joan Morgan; and her father-in-law: Rick Cooke.

Both the family and the funeral home wish that everyone remains safe. Therefore, we ask that visitors be mindful of current restrictions and pay respects appropriately and promptly, without lingering. Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875. I met Amanda through running. She became my running coach. She pushed me and inspired me, believing in my capabilities. It was an honor to know her. She was always ready to help people: strangers, friends, neighbors. She strived for that and she was never afraid to speak up for the things she believed in. That is how I perceived Amanda and I am truly so sorry for your loss. She will always inspire me and I hope that in some way we all can carry on a small part of her.
