Albert M. “Al” Bandman
Albert M. “Al” Bandman, age 70, of Shelby, died Monday, July 16, 2018 at Elmcroft of Ontario.
Al was born August 2, 1947 in New York City, New York, the son of the late Howard and Dorothy (Gold) Bandman. He was a 1965 graduate of New Brunswick High School in New Brunswick, NJ and a veteran of the United States Navy. Al furthered his education at The Ohio State University, earning a bachelor’s degree from the Fisher College of Business, and later earned a MBA from the University of West Florida. Al spent his career as a steel purchaser and is well known in the industry. He worked in several places across the country including Austin, TX, Tampa, FL, Pittsburgh, PA, and Shelby, OH. In 2014, after 25 plus years of service, he retired as Purchasing Manager for North America from ArcelorMittal in Shelby.
Golf was Al’s biggest hobby and passion. He was a member of Shelby Country Club and was proud to have had a hole in one on the 4th of July in 2012. He was an avid reader and loved watching Ohio State Football. Al was a member of Emanuel Jacob Congregation in Mansfield.
Al is survived by his wife, Mary L. (McLaughlin) Martin Bandman, whom he wed May 5, 1995. Also surviving are 3 children: Katherine (David) Brumfield, Daniel (Carrie) Bandman, Lauren Bandman (Gaetano Nicolosi) all of Columbus; a step-daughter: Kate (Wayne) Pry of Shelby; 3 grandchildren: Macie, Blake, and Jack; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Jackie Cumbie and Anita Cochran.
Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 4-7 pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where memorial services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11 am. Burial will follow in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Plymouth-Shiloh Food Pantry, People Helping People of North Central Ohio, or Plymouth St. Joseph Roof Replacement Fund.

Mary, so sorry to hear of Al’s passing. Walt enjoyed playing golf with him. I remember him as a man who always had a gentle smile on his face. And Dad once said, “this one is a keeper” when you and AL got married. We were truly blessed when he joined our family. May he truly be smiling down on all of us, now.

Mary and family my sincere condolences related to your loss. Al was a great man and loved by many at the Tuby. He will be missed! I am glad he was able to get a hole in 1 playing golf. We played together many times in the Tuby Golf League.

To Al’s Family
I was so very sorry to hear of Al’s passing. Al and I were Theta Chi fraternity brothers at Ohio State. We also had many classes together while at OSU and even roomed together one year at the fraternity house on East 14th Ave.
My memories of Al are very fond as I remember him as both an extremely witty, but yet, very thoughtful person. He was always fun to be around and had a great many friends while at OSU.
Although I ran into Al several years ago at an OSU football game, we never made good on our pledge at that time to “get together soon.” I deeply regret that and certainly extend to Al’s entire family my sincere condolences for your loss.
Mary and family, you have my deepest sympathies. I pray that you all find comfort in the loving and supportive people who surround you at this time.

Mary, my deepest sympathy! I will miss my fellow aviator and Ohio golf partner. He was a wonderful man and I always enjoyed seeing him at our Miller family reunions or anytime we were in the area for a family visit. My prayers for you and your family during this time of lose, and always.
